I went through all the steps, and then it said it couldn't communicate with my printer after I put in the key. Now when I try it again it says the key has already been used but it hasn't. I am requesting a refund or a new key at no cost.

Which solution have you tried to use? WIC? Please send the screenshot to our support team email, they will help you to deal with the key
