Update mode requires multiple keys to be pressed on printer at the same time, for all those wondering. They are assuming people are doing this. This was not the case for me. I was in normal mode all along. My solution was quite simple, I removed the usb cord from the computer and plugged it back in once it searched for my computer. It does not see my computer but worked great with the usb it found.
